This is a basic ratcheting caliper piston spreader for pushing pistons back into the caliper during pad swaps. It comes with two steel press plates and is meant for single, twin, and some quad-piston calipers, as long as you have enough room to get the tool in place. On BMWs, that makes it useful for common front and rear brake jobs on cars like F30, F32, E90, and G20 where you're compressing straight-in pistons, not rotating them.

I'd pick this over a C-clamp if you want better control and easier one-handed use while the caliper is still on the car. I would not buy it for rear calipers that require a wind-back tool, and it also needs about 1.5 inches of clearance between the caliper edge and piston to fit. The ratchet needs inward pressure to start working, so the first few clicks can feel awkward if you've never used one before.
