The BMW F36 Gran Coupé shares its cooling architecture with the F30/F32 platform, and keeping thermals in check is critical whether you're running a 428i or a 435i. The stock plastic thermostat housing and water pump are well-known failure points, and proactive replacement with an OEM-quality unit from Genuine BMW or a Gates heavy-duty equivalent is strongly recommended before you start pushing the engine harder. For track days or spirited driving, upgrading to a Mishimoto performance aluminum radiator offers significantly better heat dissipation than the factory unit, and their silicone coolant hose kit eliminates the brittleness issue common with aged OEM rubber. N55-equipped F36 owners should also consider an aftermarket charge air cooler; Wagner Tuning and Mishimoto both produce well-regarded intercooler kits that reduce intake temps noticeably under sustained load. Always flush your cooling system with BMW-approved coolant - Zerex G48 is a solid aftermarket match - and never mix blue and green formulas. Address the plastic expansion tank with a reinforced aluminum replacement early; they crack under pressure with little warning and can leave you stranded quickly.
