BMW coolant is blue (or violet on some newer spec), not the green or orange stuff sold for most other brands, and that's not a marketing color - it's a phosphate-free, silicate-based formulation matched to protect the aluminum alloys BMW uses throughout the cooling system. Mixing in the wrong type doesn't cause an immediate failure, but it does reduce the corrosion protection those aluminum components depend on over years of service. This is a short list on purpose - there just aren't that many correctly-formulated options worth ranking against each other, and padding it with off-spec coolant would defeat the point of the guide.
1. Peak OET Extended Life Blue - Best Overall
Pre-diluted 50/50, which means it's poured straight in with no mixing math - a real advantage if you're topping off or doing a full flush without wanting to measure distilled water ratios. Explicitly formulated and labeled for BMW's E, F, and G chassis spec, which covers the overwhelming majority of BMWs still on the road.

PEAK OET Extended Life Blue Antifreeze - 50/50 Prediluted for BMW E/F/G Chassis
$18.95
2. Peak Global Lifetime Concentrate - Best Concentrate
Same Peak formulation family as the pick above, sold as concentrate rather than pre-diluted - cheaper per gallon of finished coolant if you're doing a full system flush and don't mind mixing your own 50/50 ratio with distilled water. Phosphate-free and matched to BMW's European spec.

PEAK Global Lifetime Concentrate - Phosphate-Free Coolant for BMW European Spec
$19.95
3. Zerex G40 Phosphate-Free Concentrate - Best Alternative Brand
Zerex is a widely available alternative to Peak that also meets the phosphate-free, silicate spec BMW's aluminum components need. Worth having as a second option if Peak isn't in stock locally or you'd rather diversify away from a single-brand recommendation - the formulation chemistry is what matters, not brand loyalty.

Zerex G40 Phosphate Free Concentrate Antifreeze and Coolant - 1 Gallon
$31.88
4. Valvoline Multi-Vehicle 50/50 - Best Emergency Top-Off
Labeled specifically for emergency top-off use, not a full flush - keep a jug of this in the trunk or garage for the "coolant light came on, I need to add some right now" situation rather than as your primary maintenance product. Multi-vehicle formulations trade some of the BMW-specific optimization for broader compatibility, which is the right tradeoff for a stopgap, not for what stays in the system long-term.

Valvoline Multi-Vehicle - 50/50 Premixed Coolant for BMW Emergency Top-Off
$18.58
