For $33 you get dealer-level coding access on F/G/I chassis, but the cable is the easy 10% - the software and know-how are the other 90%.
What I like

- -E-series (E90/E60/etc) need a K+DCAN cable instead, this one won't talk to them

- -Steep learning curve, mess up an FDL edit and you can brick a module
- -No handholding, you're on forums and YouTube for the actual coding knowledge
Bottom line
Buy this if you own an F, G, or I-series BMW and actually want to learn E-Sys/ISTA coding rather than just flip a few comfort settings. Skip it if you drive an E-series, don't own a laptop you're willing to dedicate to this, or just want plug-and-play convenience - grab a BimmerCode-compatible adapter instead.
Let's be clear about what this actually is before anyone gets excited. It's a length of shielded CAT5e cable with an RJ45 connector on one end and a 16-pin OBD2 connector on the other, plus USB-C and USB-A adapters so your laptop can talk to it. That's it. No app, no subscription, no fancy dongle with a chip inside doing the hard work. The hard work happens on your laptop, in software you install separately, and that's the part most buyers don't fully grasp when they see the price tag.
I've run ENET cables on my own G20 330i and on a buddy's F30 for years now. This one from Reloot is functionally identical to every other ENET cable I've used, dealer tools included. The gold-plated connectors and shielded jack aren't marketing fluff either, cheap ENET cables with poor shielding can drop connection mid-write, which on a bad day means a half-flashed module. I haven't had a dropout with this one yet across a dozen or so coding sessions.
Why ENET matters for BMW specifically
BMW moved from the older K+DCAN diagnostic protocol to Ethernet-based communication starting with the F-series in roughly 2011-2012. That means F, G, and I-series cars (F30, F10, G20, G05, i3, etc) all use this ENET/RJ45 connection for anything beyond basic OBD2 fault reading. If you're still driving an E90 or E60, this cable does nothing for you, you need the older K+DCAN cable instead. I get asked this constantly on the forum, so I'll say it plainly here too, matching cable to chassis generation is non-negotiable.
With an ENET cable and E-Sys (free, but you'll spend time finding a working version and the right PSdZData), you get access to FDL coding, the same low-level module coding BMW dealers use. This is different from what apps like BimmerCode offer. BimmerCode is coding-lite, curated toggles for comfort features, mostly safe, mostly reversible. E-Sys with an ENET cable is the real thing, full read/write access to individual data points inside each module. That's both the appeal and the danger.
Real-world use on G20, F30, G05
On my G20 I use this setup mainly for one-time coding jobs that BimmerCode can't touch, retrofitting features that weren't ordered from the factory, adjusting FDL values that require direct hex editing, or pulling detailed vehicle order data. On a customer's F30 recently I used it to fully activate a retrofitted reversing camera, which needed coordinated changes across three modules that no app-based tool exposes. The G05 X5 platform is similar to G20 in terms of ENET behavior, though Secure Gateway restrictions are more aggressive on newer G-series builds with the latest head units.
Speaking of Secure Gateway, this matters more each year. Cars built after roughly 2020 increasingly ship with BMW's Secure Gateway Module, which blocks unauthorized write access to safety-critical modules unless you have valid dealer-level authentication tokens. An ENET cable alone doesn't bypass this, you'll need either an older pre-Secure-Gateway vehicle, a bench-flashed workaround, or legitimate dealer credentials, which most DIYers don't have. Check your build date before assuming this cable unlocks everything.
On the iOS and app side, this cable is irrelevant, it's a laptop tool only, no iPhone or Android compatibility whatsoever. If your goal is quick comfort coding from your phone in the driveway, this isn't your product, look at a BimmerCode-compatible adapter instead.
Who it's for
This is for the person who's already watched a dozen E-Sys tutorials, has a dedicated Windows laptop they don't mind dedicating to this hobby, and wants access to genuine dealer-level coding rather than app-curated toggles. If you just want to enable comfort turn signals and disable seatbelt chimes, you're overspending on complexity for a $33 cable and a steep software learning curve.
